Tile roofs require mounting brackets bolted directly into the wood or steel structure beneath the tiles — which takes skill to lift tiles for drilling without cracking or damaging them, and specific waterproofing at each penetration point to prevent water seeping in under the tiles.
The Effect on Timeline and Cost
Metal roof installation generally takes less time and slightly lower labor cost than tile roofs, due to the simpler mounting process. That said, the cost difference isn't large enough to be the main deciding factor — the roof's actual condition and remaining service life matter more.
